Yoodli's free plan gives you five roleplays for the life of your account. Not five a month. Five, ever. If you are a new team lead using it to rehearse a tough conversation, you will hit that wall fast, and the next search is usually "free Yoodli alternative".
One free option that keeps coming up for Hong Kong managers is UD's Boss Simulator. We checked both on 6 October 2026 and found they train different skills. Yoodli rehearses how you speak in one conversation. Boss Simulator rehearses how you triage a day of things going wrong. This comparison lays out price, limits and where each tool wins, including where ours does not.
What is the difference between Yoodli and Boss Simulator?
Yoodli is an AI communication coach where an AI plays the other person in a spoken roleplay and scores your delivery. Boss Simulator is a free browser game from UD where you play a Hong Kong business owner handling 12 incidents across a simulated 24 hours, choosing one of three responses each time while a stress meter rises.
Yoodli's own help centre describes it as a platform "that uses AI roleplays to help teams prepare for and practice high-stakes conversations". It offers conversation roleplay, speech practice and interview practice, and runs in the browser, as a Mac and Windows app, and inside Zoom, Teams and Google Meet.
Boss Simulator is text and choice based. You pick one of eight industries (restaurant, retail, real estate, tutoring centre, clinic, logistics, hotel or food delivery platform), then work through 12 incidents. If the stress meter reaches 100%, the game ends. The point is to feel the load an SME owner carries and see which incidents an AI on-call team could absorb.
How much do Yoodli and Boss Simulator cost in 2026?
Boss Simulator is free with no sign-up, no card and no session cap. Yoodli's Starter plan is free for five lifetime roleplays, Pro is US$8 a month billed annually for up to 10 roleplays a week, and Advanced is US$20 a month billed annually for unlimited roleplays. Yoodli's team plans are quote-only.
Fact sheet (checked 6 October 2026)
--- Yoodli Starter: US$0. Five roleplays for the lifetime of the account; only sessions over 30 seconds count. No card required.
--- Yoodli Pro: US$8 a month billed annually (about HK$62). Up to 10 roleplays a week; unused sessions do not roll over.
--- Yoodli Advanced: US$20 a month billed annually (about HK$156). Unlimited roleplays; your data excluded from AI training by default.
--- Yoodli Team and Enterprise: quote only, with dashboards, SSO and LMS integrations.
--- Boss Simulator: HK$0. No account, no card, unlimited replays. 8 industries, 12 incidents per game, 3 choices per incident.
Two Yoodli details catch people out. The US$8 and US$20 figures are annual-billed rates, and monthly billing costs more. There is also no free trial of the paid plans, so your five free sessions are the whole evaluation. Both points come from Orator's 25 September 2026 Yoodli review; note that Orator makes a competing app, though it cites Yoodli's own pricing page and help centre.
Which tool is better for practising difficult conversations?
Yoodli is clearly better for practising a difficult conversation. Its AI counterpart responds to what you actually say and asks unscripted follow-ups, then reports filler words, pace and pauses. Boss Simulator has no voice, no free-text replies and no speech feedback, so it cannot rehearse a performance review or a pay negotiation.
If your problem is "I freeze when a staff member pushes back", Yoodli is the right tool. You can set up a performance review or an objection, speak your answer, and get challenged in ways you did not plan for.
Independent reviewers point to one weakness worth knowing: Yoodli measures how you said something more reliably than whether your argument was any good. A smooth delivery of a weak point can still score well. Use its numbers for delivery habits, and judge the substance yourself.
Also check the practical fit. Yoodli has no iPhone or Android app, and the company has shifted toward enterprise sales training since its US$40M Series B in December 2025, reported by TechCrunch.
Which tool is better for practising workload and incident triage?
Boss Simulator is better for practising triage: deciding quickly what to handle, delegate or ignore when several problems land at once. Each game stacks 12 industry-specific incidents into a 24-hour shift, and every choice raises your stress differently. Yoodli does not simulate competing priorities across a working day.
For an operations manager or a new shop supervisor, the hard part is often not one conversation. It is the complaint, the no-show staff member and the broken equipment arriving in the same hour.
Boss Simulator turns that into a fast loop you can replay as often as you like. Because it is free and needs no account, you can run the clinic scenario before lunch and the logistics one after, or send the link to a whole team without seat licences. You can read more about how a session runs in our Boss Simulator free trial guide.
The game also has a second purpose that Yoodli does not: it shows which routine incidents, such as after-hours enquiries or repetitive admin, could be handed to an AI team, which is useful if you are building the case for automation.
What are the honest limitations of each tool?
Yoodli's main limits are a five-session lifetime free cap, no free trial of paid plans, no mobile app and stronger delivery scoring than content judgement. Boss Simulator's main limits are bigger for skill-building: no voice or free-text practice, no personalised feedback report, preset scenarios only and a page designed to start a sales conversation.
Boss Simulator limitations
--- It is a decision game with fixed choices, not a live roleplay. You cannot type or say your own answer.
--- There is no speech analysis and no manager dashboard, and with no account there is no progress history to track.
--- Scenarios are preset across eight industries. You cannot load your own situation.
--- The interface is in Chinese with Cantonese phrasing, and the page's calls to action lead to a WhatsApp chat with UD's sales team.
Yoodli limitations
--- Five lifetime free roleplays, then a paid plan with no trial.
--- Browser, desktop and meeting-app only; no phone app.
--- Public ratings are thin: Orator reports Yoodli's G2 score of about 4.7 rests on single-digit review counts.
--- Read the privacy settings before recording client calls; AI-training exclusion is the default only on Advanced.
Should a manager choose Yoodli or Boss Simulator?
Choose Yoodli if your goal is to speak better in one high-stakes conversation and you will pay US$8 to US$20 a month after five sessions. Choose Boss Simulator if you want free, unlimited practice at prioritising a chaotic day. Many managers will use both: Boss Simulator for triage, Yoodli or a chatbot roleplay for the conversation itself.
--- Sales or client-facing lead rehearsing pitches: Yoodli Pro.
--- New supervisor dreading a performance review: Yoodli's free sessions, then the prompt below.
--- SME owner or ops manager juggling incidents: Boss Simulator.
--- Trainer running a team workshop on zero budget: Boss Simulator for the group, the prompt below for pairs.
Out of Yoodli sessions and not ready to pay? Any general chatbot can run a basic text roleplay. You lose the voice analytics, but you keep unscripted pushback.
Try this prompt (ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini):
You are Ken, a senior warehouse supervisor at a Hong Kong logistics company. You have worked here 9 years. I am your new manager and I need to tell you that your team missed the dispatch deadline 4 times this month and that this must change.
Rules for you:
- Stay in character. Be defensive at first, blame staffing, and interrupt once.
- Only soften if I acknowledge your experience AND propose a specific next step.
- Keep each reply under 50 words.
- After 8 exchanges, step out of character and give me feedback in 3 bullets: what worked, what escalated things, and one sentence I should have said instead.
Start the conversation with Ken's first reaction.
The right tool is the one that matches the moment you actually struggle with. We understand AI. We understand you better. With UD by your side, AI doesn't feel cold.
