You have approval to try one AI role this quarter, not eight. The question is not whether AI can do the work. It is which single function you point it at first, so that the result is visible enough to justify the second one.
UD publishes eight pre-configured AI staff roles through its AI Employee Hub, each mapped to a business function and each carrying UD's own published estimate of the monthly human cost it substitutes for. This page compares those eight, states plainly what HK$0 a month covers and what it does not, and recommends a starting role by department.
What is the UD AI Employee Hub?
The AI Employee Hub is a free directory of eight pre-configured AI staff roles that Hong Kong businesses can deploy without building an agent from scratch. Each role is packaged around a business function rather than a technology, arrives with a defined skill set, and is published by UD at a stated monthly cost of HK$0 with no trial period limit.
The framing is deliberate. Instead of asking a department head to specify a model, a retrieval strategy and an integration plan, the Hub asks a simpler question: which job do you need done?
Across the eight roles UD lists 24 professional skills in total. The Hub page states the roles are curated by UDomain and provided free for Hong Kong businesses to use.
What does each AI employee replace in monthly staff cost?
UD publishes a monthly human-cost substitution estimate against every role, ranging from HK$15,000 to HK$35,000. These are UD's own stated estimates of the salary band each role covers, not audited third-party benchmarks, and they should be read as a sizing guide rather than a guaranteed saving.
--- Amy, Social Media Manager. Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn management, scheduled posting, comment replies, performance tracking. Stated substitution: approximately HK$18,000 per month.
--- Ben, Sales Assistant. Prospecting, outreach email drafting, lead follow-up, pipeline management. Stated substitution: approximately HK$20,000 per month.
--- Crystal, Customer Service Specialist. 24-hour WhatsApp and website live chat cover, instant enquiry response, FAQ handling. Stated substitution: approximately HK$16,000 per month.
--- David, SEO & Content Officer. Article writing, SEO audits, keyword strategy, search ranking work. Stated substitution: approximately HK$22,000 per month.
--- Eva, Administrative Assistant. Scheduling, document production, meeting notes, file management. Stated substitution: approximately HK$15,000 per month.
--- Frank, Data Analyst. Dashboards, automated reporting, daily tracking of revenue, customer counts and conversion. Stated substitution: approximately HK$25,000 per month.
--- Grace, E-commerce Operations Manager. Shopify management, product updates, order processing, inventory tracking, Stripe payments. Stated substitution: approximately HK$20,000 per month.
--- Henry, Information Security Consultant. Security audits, vulnerability scanning, PDPO compliance checks, phishing defence. Stated substitution: approximately HK$35,000 per month.
Added together, the eight published figures total roughly HK$171,000 per month. Nobody deploys all eight, and you should not model it that way. The number is useful only as a scale reference for what a full function-by-function build would otherwise cost in headcount.
Which AI employee should your department deploy first?
Choose the role where your team loses the most repeatable hours, not the role with the highest published substitution figure. Henry carries the largest number at HK$35,000, but a security role is the hardest to evaluate quickly, which makes it a poor first proof point for a department head who needs a visible result inside one quarter.
A practical mapping by function.
--- Operations and customer-facing teams. Start with Crystal. Enquiry volume outside office hours is measurable from day one, and the before-and-after comparison needs no interpretation.
--- Sales and business development. Start with Ben. Pipeline follow-up is the task most often dropped when a team is busy, so the improvement shows up in activity metrics you already track.
--- Finance, admin and shared services. Start with Eva. The lowest published figure at HK$15,000 also carries the lowest political risk, because nobody defends manual meeting notes.
--- Marketing. Start with David if organic search matters to your pipeline, or Amy if your channel mix is social-led. Do not start both at once; attribution becomes impossible.
--- Retail and e-commerce. Start with Grace, provided you are on Shopify. If you are not, the fit weakens considerably.
--- IT and risk. Start with Frank rather than Henry. Reporting automation builds internal credibility faster than a security review, and Henry becomes easier to fund once Frank has proven the pattern.
The rule underneath all of this: pick the function where you already have a number, so that the outcome is arithmetic rather than opinion.
What does HK$0 a month actually cover, and what does it not?
HK$0 covers the AI staff role itself, published free for Hong Kong businesses with no stated expiry and no trial period. It does not cover the third-party meters those roles sit on top of, nor the integration work required to connect a role to your existing systems, which UD quotes per engagement.
--- Included, per the published Hub page. The role, its defined skill set, and use of the Hub at a stated HK$0 monthly cost. The page describes the trial period as permanent.
--- Included on the related Cloud AI Staff activation path. HK$0 activation fee, no technical setup cost, UD specialists assisting throughout, and an AI employee live in as little as three business days.
--- Not covered by HK$0. Platform and messaging fees charged by third parties, such as Meta's WhatsApp business messaging charges for a customer service role.
--- Not covered by HK$0. Custom integration into your CRM, ERP, ticketing or finance systems, which is scoped and quoted per deployment.
--- Not published. UD does not list a deployment price or enterprise contract terms on the Hub page. Anyone quoting you a figure from this article is guessing; ask for a written scope.
The honest summary is that the role is free and the plumbing is not. That is a reasonable structure, but only if you budget for the plumbing before you present the business case, rather than after.
Where the AI Employee Hub is the wrong choice
Four situations where you should look elsewhere, stated plainly. A comparison in which the vendor wins every row is an advertisement, and these limitations are visible on the product pages themselves.
--- You need a bespoke workflow, not a role. The eight roles are pre-configured templates. If your process is genuinely unusual, you are buying a starting point that will need custom work anyway.
--- Your team works only in English. The Hub directory page is published in Traditional Chinese. The wider UD AI Staff campaign material is available in English, but the role directory itself assumes a Chinese-reading buyer.
--- You require a contractual SLA before deployment. No uptime commitment, support-response target or enterprise contract term is published on the Hub page. For a regulated financial services firm, that has to be negotiated in writing first.
--- You want independent proof before committing. The HK$15,000 to HK$35,000 substitution figures are UD's own estimates. There is no published third-party audit or customer-verified savings study behind them, so treat them as a sizing hypothesis you intend to test.
None of these are disqualifying for a mid-market Hong Kong company running a first AI deployment. All of them matter if you are presenting to a risk committee.
How long does deployment take, and what does UD do?
UD's published Cloud AI Staff activation path states an AI employee can be live in as little as three business days, with UD specialists assisting throughout and no activation fee. That timeline applies to a standard role on a standard configuration, not to a deployment that requires integration into legacy systems.
The deployment context UD publishes is worth weighing separately from the timeline.
--- Local deployment with customer data staying in Hong Kong, described as PDPO compliant and managed by a government-recognised cloud provider.
--- Per-employee AI permissions, so access can be scoped by staff member rather than granted wholesale.
--- Direct WhatsApp support for setup assistance, published on the Hub page at +852 9699 7545.
--- UDomain operating since 1998, with more than 20,000 business clients and 28 years in the Hong Kong market.
If your evaluation criteria include where data physically resides, that last set of facts is likely to matter more than the role list. Enterprises weighing that dimension should also read our explainer on what data residency actually means for enterprise AI.

The decision, in one paragraph
If you have budget for one AI role this quarter, the correct choice is almost never the most expensive function on the list. It is the function where a number already exists, where the improvement is visible within weeks, and where nobody in the organisation is emotionally invested in the manual version. For most Hong Kong departments that means Crystal, Ben or Eva first, and Henry or David once the pattern has been proven internally.
The cost of getting this wrong is not the licence fee, because there is not one. It is a quarter spent on a role nobody can evaluate, and a second budget request that is now harder to make.
We understand AI. We understand you. With UD by your side, AI never feels cold. Twenty-eight years alongside Hong Kong businesses has taught us that the first deployment is never really about the technology. It is about earning the right to attempt the second one.
