Surely, those who directly equate NFT with jpg do not know much about the blockchain technology and Web 3.0 mindset behind it, however, this joke, still, raises a question we should ask, that is, how to ‘own’ NFTs in the physical world?</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Evidently, the ‘ownership’ here does not refer to the metaphysical terms such as records on the blockchain, but some visible and tangible objects; in short, how to embody and develop the IP (Intellectual property, intellectual property rights) of NFT in the physical world.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><div class="raw-html-embed"><div style="text-align: center;">

<p>Along with the popularity of NFT, people start to explore the possibility of adopting it in their business development. So the question is, what is the most crucial thing for this adoption? Surely, technology, capital, planning, and execution capabilities are all important elements, but what is more critical is how to get rid of the "old mindset” and switch to a “new” one to enter the new world.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><ad-banner-1></ad-banner-1><div class="raw-html-embed"><div style="text-align: center;">

</div></div><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The "old mindset” refers to a set of thinking patterns that are common in the Web2.0 era: although it is believed that individuals have more autonomy than those in the Web1.0 era and enjoy a more participative and interactive Internet environment, the content provided and contributed by the users is ultimately owned by the platform. In short, there are participative but centralized. The situation has changed, radically, when the blockchain and cryptocurrencies have been introduced and stepped into our daily life. And in this new era, which is also known as the Web 3.0 era, a decentralized "new mindset” is most thirsted.</p><p>Two recent NFT projects can serve as instances and demonstrate the consequences of the” old mindset” encountering NFT.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>One is the Pet Paws NFT issued by Global Pets World Group, a subsidiary of Wisdomcome group. Highlighting the features of “combining virtual and real" and “the world's first Global Pets theme park”, the Pet Paws project not only owned its large-scale press conference, in which different celebrities were invited and participated, but also gained plenty of media exposure due to the fame of its group chairman, Mark Chan. Moreover, on the eve of the sale, different KOLs&nbsp; joined the trend and launched advertorials to push the sales. However, as of the time of writing, the nearly 700 NFTs on Opensea are only owned by around 80 wallet addresses, reflecting the limited circulation; in addition, the official Discord group of Pet Paws is not well operated: only a few interactive discussions among members can be founded, and it is far away to define these conversations as “participation” or “communication”.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><div class="raw-html-embed"><div style="text-align: center;">

</div></div><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The second example is the "RED NVLPE" series under the artist Edison Chen’s 2426C NFT project. With the fame of Edison Chen and eight groups of well-known creators, RED NVLPE has its innate advantages, setting the total item numbers and price in 8888 and 0.1888 ETH is also a smart move. However, after the release of the whitelist on February 15, complaints pop up: many members complained in the official Discord group of 2426C that they did not receive their NFTs after minting; or receiving multiple NFTs for no reason... Although an official apology was made sooner after the incident, the damage was done and the project was criticized as rigged -&nbsp; it is discovered that when the ETH was sent by the buyers to the official wallet address and the NFTs were manually transferred to the buyer's wallet by the official account instead of a true minting that is processed via. The anger of the buyers, thus, was fuelled by the appearance of the evidence.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Despite the two projects are being different in background, content, and selling points, they are having the same reason for the failure: the “old mindset”. In the Web 2.0 era, a grand press conference, the endorsement of celebrities, etc, are some effective practices to gain huge success: once you can gain the attention of the public, and with some operations behind-the-scenes, it is not that difficult to make successful projects. This approach doesn’t work in Web3.0 anymore. Here, it is no longer the platform that plays a dominant role, but the individuals, communities, and the power of the masses; moreover, as all operations are recorded by the blockchain, everything is open, transparent and traceable. In other words, an NFT project that is operated with an old-fashioned mindset will only become a small-circle musical chair game; only projects that truly embrace a decentralized mindset, believe in the power of individuals, and manage the community attentively will probably be well-received.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The result of one single NFT project will not bring much change to the whole trend. The comeback of Jun, however, did not help the drama in gaining an outstanding result, but the ratings and reputations were unsatisfactory due to different factors, namely, the unattractive performance of Jun, the poor special effects, and the lack of freshness of the characters, etc. Moreover, the production company got involved and its stock price saw a fell for two consecutive weeks. The unsatisfactory result of the drama was just the first half of this ‘tragedy’- the company launched NFT products, which were featuring Jun Ji-hyun and actor Ju Ji-hoon in the play, after the drama was aired; an NFT exhibition was even held to build momentum. Efforts paid but just could not help to change the disadvantage. As a result, the related products were finally sold at about HK$120 and HK$130 respectively, marking the historically lowest auction price in UPBIT, a local NFT platform in South Korea.<br><br>Although the disappointing result, one cannot neglect the strategy of the production company: to ride on the popularity of the drama and launch the NFT. But the point is, it is just not ‘appropriate’.&nbsp;<br><br>First, the company did not take the market response seriously. It’s without any surprise that a good reputation of the drama can help to promote the NFTs. But in the case of ‘Mount Jiri’, the poor reputation and ratings were the most direct reaction of the audience towards it, thus, it is certainly not a good timing to launch the NFT products right after the end of the drama. Secondly, the lack of self-correction consciousness. Continuing from the above point, the inappropriate timing is a congenital deficiency, coupled with the unsatisfactory performance of the episodes, which means that the existing elements related to the episodes cannot impress the audience, but this series of NFT products have not been corrected based on this failure, not to mention adding other selling points or elements to ‘add value’. In other words, this NFT series is not a game-changer but a repeat of the same problem. The lack of understanding and reflection on the market and products made the failure result a destined one.&nbsp;<br>As a neutral tool, NFTs can bring you both benefits and losses, what we can learn from Jun Ji-hyun’s case is twofold: it is not only ‘why’ you launch NFT that matters, but also ‘how’, besides the courage to embrace new things, the understanding of the target audience and product value is also indispensable.<br><br>Every coin has two sides. Moreover, when community members are strongly dissatisfied with the existing DAO, the most radical approach allows them to copy the open-source code completely, and then jointly create a new DAO. As the project name indicates, the creator will film the daily operation of claw machine for 100 consecutive days, and then mint those video clips into NFT. Referenced to the project’s official website, in addition to taking the videos, Chen also listed the details of each clip such as the location of the camera, GPS details, and the objects clamped in the machine. Out of curiosity, I checked out the website, and yes, it's a 'Membership Card' as the name stated! This '066 Membership Card' featured an array of membership benefits: lifetime access to the social media platform; opportunity to connect with record managing company, producers, engineers, songwriters; professional mixing and mastering; music distribution &amp; marketing service etc. To sum up, it is a integration of record production services, music platforms and fan communities, all in one in the form of an NFT 'membership card'.&nbsp;<br><br>It got me intrigued to discover more about this membership thing by searching on OpenSea with the keyword ‘member’. An interesting discovery: an NFT membership card of a mysterious club that allowed the member to ‘enjoy fine wine and cigar with luxurious ambience and premium service’. There was another one— 'member welfare gift card'— which allowed the cardholder to redeem prizes or courses on the designated platform, and you may even directly transfer ownership of this card to others.&nbsp;<br><br>'Membership card', however, is not new idea at all. Don't you remember that Time Magazine cover photo NFTs also came with a lifetime membership of the Time.com? And the NFT works of Yua Mikami, didn't they feature some real-life gifts? In other words, what people are doing is BREAKING DOWN the elements of their products or service, RECOMBINING them, SUGARCOATING the 'new' products with NFT, and finally, SELLING them!&nbsp;<br><br>Based on this formular, a wide range of commercial organizations can actually confidently enter the NFT world: can the e-book platforms and media organizations turn their content into NFTs and sell them together with memberships? When sneaker brands produce limited editions and relaunch classic styles named after stars, can they issue corresponding NFTs at the same time, and then establish a community to facilitate long-term customer relationship and follow-up promotion?&nbsp;<br><br>If brands or creators can issue NFTs to customers or supporters who provide feedback and contribute content, wouldn't NFT membership card be more trendy than cash coupons? The bonding created through this community engagement is stronger than ever. There are certainly more variation of such usage. What matter is, do you still think that NFT has nothing to do with you or your business?
