What's the difference between DV, OV and EV?
DV verifies only domain ownership, the fastest and cheapest, showing a padlock in the browser, suitable for non-transactional sites. OV also verifies organisation identity, with the company name in the browser's certificate details, suitable for SMEs. EV is the strictest level, requiring legal-document review and showing the full company name right in the address bar, the highest trust level, suitable for e-commerce, financial institutions and listed companies.
Is free SSL (e.g. Let's Encrypt) enough?
For a personal blog or non-transactional site, yes. But free SSL is DV-only, comes with no warranty or customer support, and needs renewing every 90 days. Sites handling payments, customer data or a corporate image should use OV or above, with a vendor warranty and professional installation help.
How long does installation take?
DV is issued within hours; OV in 3–4 business days; EV in 1–2 weeks (including legal-document verification). Total go-live includes UD engineer installation and configuration, usually completed within 1 business day of issue.
What happens if the certificate expires?
Once expired, browsers immediately show ‘Not secure’ or ‘Your connection is not private’, badly hurting user trust and SEO rankings, some visitors leave outright. UD reminds you to renew before expiry so there is no gap.
Which CA does UD use?
UD issues through GlobalSign, a globally trusted certificate authority recognised by every major browser and device. UD engineers recommend the right DV, OV or EV tier for your needs and compliance target.
What is the free reissue within 7 days?
Every SSL certificate can be reissued free within 7 days of issue. Common cases include a mistyped domain name, needing to add a SAN, or re-signing after a server IP change, so you avoid extra charges for configuration adjustments.
How do you handle multi-domain or large deployments?
A single certificate includes up to 4 SANs (multi-domain plan); beyond that, extra SANs are purchased separately. To manage more than 10 domains or many subdomains, submit an enquiry and UD engineers will recommend the best mix of Wildcard, multi-domain or multiple certificates.
